Senior Bowtech Instructor, Bowen Therapist and practicing Midwife. Married with 4 children and two grand-children. Enjoys golf, music and the outdoors.

After a brief time as a professional golfer, Rick has been a health care professional for 38 years. He has worked for the National Health Service in UK for most of that time as a psychiatric and general nurse and for the last 20 years has been practicing midwifery at Royal Lancaster Infirmary in the North West of England, close to the English Lake District.

During the 70s in the offshore oil exploration boom, he worked as off-shore rig paramedic and as a saturation diving support technician. Subsequently he was involved in the installation of the first hyper baric treatment facility in Scotland for Multiple Sclerosis sufferers.

After graduating in midwifery and developing an interest in complementary therapies, he studied the Bowen Technique in 1994 and intended it to be an adjunct to his midwifery practice. However, in addition to his maternity clients, he found he was treating people who were neither pregnant nor female! His increasingly busy Bowen practice, combined with becoming a Bowen Instructor in 1997, forced him to cut back on the day job! Now he continues his work as a senior labour ward midwife on a job share basis and is developing his skills as a Ventouse (vacuum) delivery practitioner.

Rick was the lead therapist in the recently well received pilot study: "To evaluate the effectiveness of Bowen Technique in the management of clients with Frozen Shoulder"

He is about to start work on a further research project into using the technique in managing "Posterior Pelvic Pain in Pregnancy," for which ethical approval has been obtained.

He has taught many Bowen classes throughout Europe, particularly in Scotland and counts amongst his former students a number of midwives, doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors.

In addition to teaching basic practitioner courses, he also teaches on request "Bowen for Mother and Baby" seminars which have proved to be extremely popular.
